Spring in Calgary can be unpredictable—some days feel like winter is still holding on tight, while others give us a glimpse of warmer days ahead. Even if the temperatures aren’t quite patio-worthy yet, there are plenty of ways to embrace the season and shake off the winter blues. Here are some of our favourite ways to welcome spring in Calgary!
Find the Best Early-Opening Patios
As soon as the sun starts shining, Calgary’s patios start filling up! Even if you need a light jacket, there’s something refreshing about enjoying a meal or drink outdoors after months of being cooped up inside. A few great spots to check out:
Vin Room (Mission & West Springs) – Heated patio with cozy blankets
Trolley 5 (17th Ave) – A lively atmosphere with great people-watching
Ol’ Beautiful (Inglewood) – Craft beer and a relaxed vibe
Get Outside for a Spring Walk
While some trails are still thawing out, there are plenty of places where you can get fresh air without wading through the mud. A few good options:
Prince’s Island Park – A Calgary essential for a walk downtown.
Fish Creek Park – One of the best places to spot early signs of spring.
Weaselhead Flats – Great for birdwatching as migratory birds return to this beautiful delta.
Start Your Spring Cleaning & Decluttering
There’s nothing like a deep clean to make your home feel fresh for the new season! A few ideas to get started:
Clean out the garage or mudroom—winter gear takes up a ton of space!
Declutter closets and donate clothes that don’t spark joy anymore.
On those extra warm days, open up your windows and let the fresh air in! It always feels so good to let the breeze in after a long winter.
Prep Your Yard for Warmer Days
Even though we might (more like WILL) still get a few late-season snowfalls, now’s the time to start thinking about your yard. Simple things like:
Raking up leftover leaves, debris, and any other treasures that have made their way onto your property through winter.
Checking on perennials that might be peeking through (I see some tiny green tips where my tulips live!)
Planning out any garden projects for when the real warm weather hits. I have a feeling a lot more people will be experimenting with growing their own fruits and veggies this year!
Take a Quick Spring Getaway
If you’re itching for a real taste of spring, a quick road trip can do the trick! A couple of ideas:
Drumheller – The Badlands warm up faster than Calgary and are great for exploring. We already have a camping trip booked here for May!
Kananaskis Nordic Spa – Perfect for unwinding after a long winter. There is nothing more rejuvinating than the rockies thawing in the spring.
Waterton Lakes National Park – If the roads are clear, it’s a stunning early-season getaway! One of our favourite spots to explore.
Embrace Spring—Even If It’s Still a Bit Chilly!
Spring in Calgary definitely does not come all at once, but every sunny day is a little reminder that winter is on its way out. Whether you’re hanging out on a heated patio, hitting the trails, or just giving your home a little refresh, there are plenty of ways to make the most of this in-between season! Enjoy!
